After rewatching the "Family Values" episode of Bullshit, rereading a few more articles, and generally ust checking that my feelings are the same...

What the fuck is wrong with letting gay people get married? What is wrong with polyamorous couples? What is wrong with either of those groups raising children?!

Ugh. It bothers me so badly that I just want to call up Amity to borrow a spikey bat and head after people that make those I care about feel badly. Also, the whole gay-to-straight thing just makes me want to strangle people.

Goodness...why can't we just leave peoples bedrooms alone?

Oh, and speaking of things that creep me out, read this: http://www.alternet.org/story/44254/

Off to work!

That article.

Yaaaaaaaa.

10 to 1 says half these women end up on welfare cause they can't afford to take care of their children, the other half ends up with social services at their doors and the 2% that manage without going completely insane ...?

Ughs.

So someone tell me what's the difference between these fucked up Christian groups and the fucked up radical Islam groups, besides the fact the Christians have yet to blow themselves up? (Though I'm waiting)

Well... the article said that they were making an army for god.

Well, for starters, it's against God to kill people. Lots of groups are against birth control - catholics for example. that concept is not so new or crazy. My mom comes from a family of 18 children (and they weren't even fundamentalist christians - they just loved kids and took each one as it came) I admit that the few of them who think they are building god's army gives me pause - but I wonder how literal they mean it. I know i've heard my own pastor (who is very liberal) talking about how we're engaged in a "spiritual war" and we need to "rise up". But when he talks about that he means it in a figurative way - just saying we need to work hard to hold on to our morals, live christian lives and bring people to god whenever possible. He even gave a sermon about how to begin a conversation about it with people and it was not what people typically expect - it was no in-your-face-beat-you-with-the-bible sort of approach but more of a "hey have you heard about god or read the bible?". Granted, I come from a liberal methodist church though.

The author in this article clearly has a strong opinion and isn't writing an objective article. It's easy to make something sound more than it is with you words. There are clues in there though that a reader can pick on that says this group is not as radical as it sounds. For example the author slips in there "Not every family has to be Quiverfull in the sense of having six or eight children, for the movement to make an impact.Mothers who have four kids instead of three can also reinforce the Quiverfull goal" Since when is having four kids deemed extraordinary?

Ok, i'll quit now - I don't normally comment when people talk about religion because I'm of the belief that everyone is entitled to their opinions. But I couldn't resist saying at least something about this because I think christians are often condemned by non-christians if for no other reason than because they either misunderstand or don't have all the facts. That's the case with my husband - he had misinformed notions about what I believe. When I told him the milder or more truthful version of what I believe, he was kinda like - oh, that seems normal. Please know that I respond only 1)because it was posted in terri's LJ and I know she trusts and respects me enough to know i'm not all bible-thumping lol and 2)I like to read and think about things that challenge my own beliefs. I mean it all good naturedly :)

Autumnsfire is good people. Doesn't live in this state, though.

I understand that a small percentage of Christians give Christians a bad name, but the same could be said for Muslims. It's always struck me as ironic when the fundies bomb abortion clinics. That's their equivalent of the suicide bombings.
